Bio:

Ed Lim is a recovering kindergarten teacher who now teaches Filipino, Chinese and English/ELD/Read 180 at Bonita Vista High School, and Filipino at Miramar College when needed. Born and raised in Manila during the turbulent Marcos era, he encourages his students to speak up, vote, and make a contribution to our ever-changing world. He has been successful in getting English learners to excel on the CST and CAHSEE Exams. These scores were a significant contribution to Bonita Vista High School’s API scores, which were the highest in the district for the past two years (801 in 2008-09, 830 in 2009-10). In these two years, his ELD/Read 180 students increased their CST scores by an average of 13%, or 35 points (45 students – 272 previous year, 307 with Mr. Lim). In the past 3 years, 81% (30 out of 37) of his ELD 5/7 students passed the CAHSEE. In the World Language Department, he started a new Chinese program, as well as was a fourth year in Filipino designed to meet the language needs of native Filipino speakers. He has written a bilingual Filipino-English dictionary, and published a Filipino/Tagalog Flash Card kit with Tuttle Publishing. He also started the Makibaka Student Voter Project - in English, Filipino and Chinese - as a way to learn languages and empower students.

He has two brothers named Ed, and is the proud father of a daughter almost named Ed.
